A photo of a newborn — holding his mother’s IUD just moments after being plucked from her womb — has gone viral, with the woman dubbing him the “Mirena baby.”

Dexter Tyler came into the world on April 27 with a head full of hair and the hormonal intrauterine device planted in his right hand.

The 9-pound, 1-ounce bundle of joy was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, just days before his May 4 due date.

His mom, Lucy Hellein, underwent a C-section and placed the IUD in his hand for the photo moments later as a playful jab at doctors — who assured her that it was nearly impossible to get pregnant while fitted with the device.

“This was actually my third Mirena, my first two worked great,” she told the Metro newspaper in the UK.

“I had this one inserted back in August,” she said.

Hellein, who already has three other children, ultimately believes she got pregnant a few weeks after the contraceptive was placed inside her.

“It does occur, but very rarely,” Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale Medical School, told SELF Magazine of IUD pregnancies.

Hellein wrote on Instagram last month that she first found out she was carrying in December. She was already 18 weeks pregnant at the time.

“My Mirena was nowhere to be found on ultrasound so my OB assumed that it had fallen out, but I wasn’t convinced,” she told Metro, adding that it was later found behind her placenta.

Since Hellein had been given a May 4 due date — known worldwide as “Star Wars Day” — she believed it was destiny that Dexter was conceived despite her continued use of birth control.

“Even my OB said The Force is Strong with this one,” she said on Instagram, using the hashtag #littlejedi.

“This boy was definitely a HUGE surprise. Apparently I’m part of the 1% who end up with a viable mirena pregnancy.”

The photo of little Dexter holding the IUD has been shared more than 70,000 times on social media since being uploaded last week.
