Heche admits in Us Weekly that she always makes time for herself, and enjoys her time off. She says, "Time is my guilty pleasure. If I get a surprise day off, I'm like a kid in a candy store." According to WebMD, having alone time is extremely important, especially for women. "There's a tremendous amount of stress and pressure put on women: being parents, being daughters, mothers, wives, professionals. All of these roles combined leave many of us not taking adequate care of ourselves — which is what sustains us and gives us the energy to take care of all these other responsibilities that we have," says Randy Kamen Gredinger, a Wayland, MA, psychologist and life coach.
Heche tells Us Weekly that she loves to go outside. "The best advice I've been given is to look up at the clouds at least once a day," she says. Heche also says that she loves to watch the sunrise, especially when she's in Santa Fe.
While Heche is a bit private about her workout routine, she did tell Us Weekly her reasons for staying motivated to exercise. "My favorite way to work out is to look at how hard my castmates train and put down my next slice of pizza," she says. Working out with friends or with others around has a lot of benefits, and can help you stay motivated. "Join fun and engaging workout classes with some of your good friends and treat it as a girls' night out, or sign up for training classes with your partner and make it a kind of date-night activity," says sports psychologist, Melinda Nicci to WhoWhatWear.com. "That way it serves dual purposes, allows you to multitask and fit more into your busy schedule, and the social element is the best morale booster."
Heche says that her favorite activities all involve spending time with her family. She tells Us Weekly, "I like to do simple things with my kids. There's something about playing Sorry! that brings us together." She also described what her dream vacation is to the magazine, saying, "My dream vacation: sitting in a hot tub with my family, cracking each other up." Spending time with your family can also be good for your mental health. In a post for the Highland Springs Clinic, Dr. Todd Thatcher writes, "Some advantages of having a family are increased happiness and satisfaction. Studies have shown that spending time with family can help reduce stress and anxiety, lead to a healthier lifestyle and lengthen your life. Family gives you motivation to be the best version of yourself."
Heche has had a lot of things happen to her in her life, and she has been open about her struggles. Heche told The New York Times that this openness has helped her in her current life, and that her struggles have just made her stronger. "People wonder why I am so forthcoming with the truths that have happened in my life, and it's because the lies that I have been surrounded with and the denial that I was raised in, for better or worse, bore a child of truth and love."
