Maybe it stems from a lifetime of singing along to songs like, “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast, or “Les Poisson” from The Little Mermaid, or maybe it’s the repeated viewings of Pixar’s “Ratatouille,” but Disney and good food just go together in my mind. I could live off the fried green tomato sandwich at Rosie’s All-American Cafe, and I think I’ve eaten my own body weight in pastries from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in the Norway Pavilion at Epcot. At this point, I’m pretty sure that 60% of my body is POG juice, not water.
One of the most elegant and awe inspiring culinary experiences on Walt Disney World Property is, without a doubt, Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. The pastries, cakes, and other offerings are each perfect works of delicious art. Remarkably, visitors to Disney Springs, can play a part in crafting one of those works of art through the Amorette’s Cake Decorating Experience.
The 90 minute class takes place in Amorette’s Show Kitchen, before the shop opens. An instructor will walk you through the process of creating a Disney inspired dome cake, providing a variety of stories and tips, and teaching you things like how to pour glaçage, the mirror glaze that covers the cake. Guests attending courses held on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday will make a dome cake in the classic Mickey Design. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday classes will feature a character of the instructor/artist’s choice.
Classes are limited to 14 Guests, and participants must be 10 years or older. Cost is $169, which covers two participants. The class begins at 9 a.m., with Disney Springs opening at 8 a.m. In addition to your lesson, there will be a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available during your lesson, including coffee, water, mimosas, and Bellini. When you are finished, you can take your creation home with you, or Amorette’s will hold it for pick up later in the day.
